Nov 05, 2024Menopause often arrives shrouded in myths and misconceptions, yet as dedicated coaches and leadership professionals, we're in a unique position to not only dispel these myths but to elevate the narrative altogether. It's time to reframe menopause through the lens of the three P's: Power, Purpose, and Perception. By embracing these pillars, we can optimise well-being and support the commendable journey of those navigating this life stage.
Power: Reclaiming Agency in Menopause
Myth: Menopause signifies a loss of vitality and control.
Truth: Menopause can be a time of tremendous empowerment.
Menopause is often portrayed as a period of decline, but we recognise it for what it truly is—a testament to change and strength. You are not a passenger in this phase; you are the pilot. Here's how you can steer with confidence:
- Prioritise Self-Care: Building a routine that includes physical activity, nutrition, and relaxation can command presence and vitality.

Purpose: Crafting a Vision Beyond Menopause
Myth: Menopause signals the end of ambition and growth.
Truth: Menopause can serve as a launchpad for new beginnings.
Every phase of life brings opportunities for reinvention. Menopause is an invitation to align with your core values and rediscover what drives you. Consider your values as "Core Nutrients" for your journey:
- Set Goals: Whether they're personal or professional, setting goals gives the future shape and substance.
- Find Your Why: Reflect on what gives your life meaning now. This may have shifted over time, and that's more than okay—it's growth. A great exercise for this is the & why's, keep asking and answering until you get to the real answer at your core.
- Engage in Lifelong Learning: Keep your skillset sharp and your mind open. Learning is a journey without end, and it’s never too late to embark on new educational endeavors.
Perception: Changing the Narrative Around Menopause
Myth: Menopause is a time of inevitable decline in personal, social, and professional capacities.
Truth: Menopause is a natural life progression that can enrich our perspective and give us a new truth and curiosity to share.
How menopause is perceived has a profound impact on the experience of it. As coaches, we can reframe the narrative:
- Speak Openly: Let's normalise menopause dialogue, shedding light and warmth on what has previously been kept in the shadows.
- Celebrate the Journey: Acknowledge milestones and embrace the seasoned perspective this life stage affords.
- Mentor and Be Mentored: Encourage intergenerational mentorship. The insights and energy of different ages coming together can be transformative for all involved.
Now, it’s your turn to take these insights and fold them into the narrative of your own journey or to empower others in their journeys. Remember, as a coach, you have the skills and the impact to support positive transitions.
At UK Coach Training, we see you, we support you, and we celebrate the new horizons opened by embracing the Power, Purpose, and Perception of menopause. Let's continue to learn, to challenge misconceptions, and to inspire well-being, together crafting a story of menopause rich in potential and brimming with possibilities.
